UPDATE: Since this was originally published some have suggested that Google Family Link is a better option than DoMobile AppLock. The author of this post has not confirmed this, but you may want to try Google Family Link first.

Here is one setup for a porn-free Android device. It is quite restrictive.

  1. Download and install pluckeye.apk. It is a browser that disallows all images, and it does not support any Pluckeye options yet. Visit a few sites in the browser so you know what to expect.
  2. Install DoMobile AppLock. It is an app locker that supports a long PIN.
  3. Create an AppLock profile that limits your browsing to pluckeye.apk. You may also want to allow apps you frequently use that you deem safe such as the Maps, Calendar, Yelp, Evernote, and the like.
  4. Create a long (11-digit?) random PIN for DoMobile AppLock to protect your settings.
  5. Store your PIN somewhere you can't easily get. Some use http://lockbox.pluckeye.net/ for this, but so would a piece of paper stored in an inconvenient location.
