Pluckeye eyeball disappears in Firefox 43

This page applies to Pluckeye v0.31.0 and below.

The Pluckeye eyeball in Firefox is gone!

If you are viewing this page because you've lost all access to the Internet from your machine, I'm sorry. I don't know what headaches this has caused you, but please accept my apology. It is depressing that those most ill-affected may never see this page.

However, for you, dear Reader, there is hope!

What happened

Mozilla decided that any addons that had not undergone "full review" (a process that takes about 8 weeks) would be automatically disabled in Firefox 43 without any option to override. Plucki was one such addon until 2015-11-20, when it was finally approved by Mozilla.

If you are a user of Pluckeye previous to 0.31.1 and you have upgraded to Firefox 43, and hit this problem, I'm really sorry.

How to fix it

Windows

  1. Open a console window (see how-to-open-a-console-window.html).
  2. At the prompt, type type following commands:
    C:\> pluck set "delay 0"

  3. After the delay has expired, set the installation to level 1.
    C:\> pluck set "level 1"

  4. Restart Firefox. After this point, you can either uninstall Pluckeye or download and install a newer version of Pluckeye that works in Firefox 43 and above.

Linux

  1. Open a console window (see how-to-open-a-console-window.html).
  2. At the prompt, type type following commands:
    pluck set "delay 0"

  3. After the delay has expired, set the installation to level 1.
    pluck set "level 1"

  4. Restart Firefox. After this point, you can either uninstall Pluckeye or download and install a newer version of Pluckeye that works in Firefox 43 and above.

Future proof

If you give me your email address, I can notify you in the event of a similar situation in the future.

And again, SORRY!
