Dad's ice cream recipe ====================== Ingredients ----------- 3 quarts frozen ice (use old milk containers) some rock salt 4 or 5 eggs 1/2 inch n 8 fl oz bottle (~3 Tbs) vanilla extract (artificial is fine) a little salt 1 1/2 lid-fulls (~1 Tbs) of almond extract 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 cups sugar 1 pint heavy cream 1 pint whipping cream 1 quart half and half Directions ---------- Beat egg whites on high in mixer. They should become fluffy. Add a little sugar. Once the white stuff is firm, holds its shape, empty the contents and set aside. Add egg yolks, vanilla, almond extract, and beat them together. While beating, add rest of the sugar, then the egg whites back in, and cream, and half and half, and mix. Once mixed, quickly transfer to ice cream mixer URN. Start ice cream mixer, add ice, and rock salt to lower the temperature. After 10-15 minutes, re-add salt to further lower temperature of ice/salt around URN. After 20-30 minutes it should be done. The urn often overflows when the ice cream is mixed sufficiently. That means, it's done. Review ------ Yum!
